With an extensive background in the technological field and more than 25 years of experience at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, José María Cabrera Marrero will be key in the promotion of the technology transfer strategy of our organization, joining at a key moment, both for the CIM UPC and for the industrial sector.
Today, September 22nd, 2021, we have made official the appointment of José María Cabrera Marrero as the new general director of the CIM UPC. As a professor at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya since 2008, he has held the positions of coordinator of the PhD program in Materials Science and Engineering, deputy director of the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering and secretary of the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering, after more than 10 years as a professor at the same university. However, his path to the UPC began much earlier, since he also graduated and obtained his doctorate as an industrial engineer between 1983 and 1995 at the ETSEIB.
For Dr.Cabrera, the CIM UPC will not be his first experience of leadership in a technology center. For more than 15 years he developed professionally at the CTM Foundation, Technological Center of Manresa. With a technical profile, he progressed from project manager to the management of the Process Area.
“Leading the CIM UPC project is a challenge for my career. I have worked for many years in the technology field and industrial sector, but now I find myself in a technology center that has a great potential thanks to its transfer, research, prototyping and training areas. These are delicate times, of important changes, but from now on we will work together to promote Catalan industry with the CIM UPC at the forefront. Here you will find yourself sheltered from the first moment by a culture of teamwork, continuous technical specialization and eagerness for innovation. It breathes in all areas,” explains the director.
Cabrera will offer his experience and knowledge in the sector, collaborating in the unification, impulse and transformation of the sector. “We are convinced that José María will bring us his extensive knowledge of the market, his relationship with all the representatives of the sector and his know-how in order to help the sector in these difficult times. It is an honor to have him on board,” says Felip Fenollosa, R&D director.
The new UPC rector’s team, led by Rector Daniel Crespo is determined that the UPC will rise to the challenges we have as a country: “The CIM UPC is the tool to help boost the many research and technology transfer capabilities in Industry 4.0 and 3D printing of our university, and for which a clear strategy is needed, as well as to stop thinking in terms of expenditure and instead in terms of investment. The main purpose of our action must be the generation of jobs in the industry of high added value”.
