Innovative Solutions in Additive Manufacturing: Overcoming the Limitations of Conventional Technologies
Conventional 3D printing technologies, based on CAD modeling and similar materials, are beginning to show their limitations. Their rigidity hinders the response to the advanced functionalities that Digital Manufacturing can offer today.
At CIM UPC, we drive a different approach: within the framework of consortia projects, our technical teams work side by side with research groups to transform technological needs into real solutions. We co-create unique teams that enable researchers to stand out and advance the state of the art.
These teams integrate technologies of diverse nature and enable innovative production processes such as multimaterial extrusion. Among the combined technologies, we find:
FFF (Fused Filament Fabrication)
DIW (Direct Ink Writing)
Pellet extrusion
Microextrusion of soft materials
Hybridization of all these technologies
All this development is accompanied by advanced analysis and characterization tools that we put at the service of companies, research centers and universities. The objective is to make available to the scientific community and the R&D ecosystem unique equipment and functionalities that allow validating, experimenting and developing new solutions with rigor, flexibility and speed.
With this approach, CIM UPC facilitates the creation of high-performance multi-material prototypes and parts that allow progress in key areas such as health, energy or industry. In this way, we contribute tangibly to addressing global challenges such as the energy transition, the circular economy, sustainability or decarbonized mobility .
