PERMANET
PERMANET is a sustainable innovation and supply network for REEs that covers the full value chain of rare earth element (REE) permanent magnets (PM).
It is structured in 5 layers:
1) Three sustainable and connected technology “centres” segmented along the entire REE PM value chain and organising collaborative R&D and supply ecosystems
2) 13 fully scalable innovations to reach TRL7 and expand in scale and range of deployment along all value chain
3) A structural layer of R&D infrastructures, equipment and services to feed pilot and demonstration activities
4) Five enabling “motors” addressing the key conditions for the sustainable and competitive supply of REE
5) All integrated within a single PERMANET network infrastructure with its own sustainable organizational model.
The network accelerates cutting-edge innovations, from the extraction of REE from mining waste and hydrometallurgical processes to the reduction of oxides and innovative production processes, to the production of innovative PMs and their testing by end users in an industrial environment through:
1/E-Mobility
2/ Energy
3/ Industrial equipment
PERMANET also secures key REE sources, such as EU-leading mining projects and partner countries, as well as End of Life (EoL) sectors (WEEE, VE, etc.). The project is based on enabling activities ranging from strategic adventure to investment support to build a suboptimal EU Segments REE PM. The project unlocks viable REE reserves including unconventional sources and will demonstrate novelties, cost-effective and ecological REE extraction, processing and separation routes, as well as demonstrate the first EU center to drive PM circular technologies to deploy at market scale. The project is ready to fully integrate with other EU-backed PM centres and aims to become a pilot and demonstration across the EU. infrastructure to remain sustainable after funding.
