3D Printing for Construction: Revolutionizing Architecture with Ceramic Materials and Sustainable Innovation.
CIM UPC’s main objective is to revolutionize the construction industry by developing large-scale 3D printing techniques and processes for ceramic materials. We aim to make a reality the construction of prefabricated buildings and homes with a significant environmental, social, and economic impact, positioning ourselves as a global benchmark in Construction 4.0.
While 3D printing has traditionally been used for models, our technology goes far beyond that. We want to offer architects and engineers unprecedented design freedom, enabling the creation of structures with innovative geometries that are impossible with conventional methods.
The incorporation of 3D printing into construction offers key advantages:
Overcoming geometric limitations inherent to other construction techniques.
Manufacturing of fully customized structures without increasing costs.
Significant reduction in CO2 emissions compared to traditional processes.
Potential time and cost optimization compared to conventional methodologies.
Value-adding to residual or local materials as raw materials, promoting the circular economy.
From CIM UPC, through our R+D+I area and participation in competitive projects such as, we are making crucial advances to turn this concept into a reality. Our research covers the printing technology itself, process simulation, and the formulation of new materials and alternative cements to make the integration of this technology into the construction sector viable.
