3D Revolution for Inclusion: Personalized Solutions That Transform Lives
February 10, 2025 —- Last week, at CIM UPC, intensive Rehab-Lab training sessions were held over four days, where 28 professionals –including occupational therapists and social experts– delved into the design and manufacturing process of customized functional aids using 3D printing. In this context, the addition of 10 new organizations from across Catalonia was also announced, consolidating the project as a benchmark in creating solutions tailored to the needs of people with motor disabilities.
Rehab-Lab is a pioneering initiative that uses 3D printing technology to develop customized functional aids. The project was created with the goal of improving the quality of life of people with disabilities, offering innovative solutions to facilitate everyday tasks such as drinking water, opening doors, or getting dressed. This initiative is the result of a close collaboration between the social, academic, and technological sectors, led by the Fundació iSocial, with support from the Instituto Guttmann, Fundación Ampans, the company Avinen, and CIM UPC, as well as funding from Next Generation EU. Additionally, it promotes a network of digital fabrication centers (FabLabs) that includes organizations such as ASPACE Cataluña, Grupo Alba, Grupo MIFAS y Fundación El Maresme, among others.
The Minister of Social Rights and Inclusion, Mónica Martínez Bravo, visited the center to learn more about the Rehab-Lab project. She expressed her strong support and highlighted the importance of this initiative to increase the autonomy and social inclusion of people with disabilities.
At CIM UPC, we are proud to be part of this commitment to technological innovation and social responsibility, contributing to the creation of accessible and personalized solutions for a more inclusive and supportive society.
