BCN3D, third best Industry 4.0 start-up of the year

We celebrate and congratulate our Spin-off for having been awarded third place in the category ‘Telecommunications, Industry 4.0 and emerging technologies’ of the Expansión Start Up Awards of the newspaper Expansión and Unidad Editorial, for the strength, impact and scalability of its proposal.

Our spin-off, BCN3D has been chosen the third best start-up in Spain according to the ‘Premios Expansión Start Up’ awarded by the newspaper Expansión and the publishing group Unidad Editorial. Thus, on the night of November 23rd Xavier Martínez Faneca and Marc Felis, CEO and marketing director of BCN3D respectively, were in charge of collecting the award at theOld Damm Factory, which hosted what is already the third edition of these awards, focused on supporting the Spanish entrepreneurial ecosystem.

It is an award that was born with the aim of promoting the trajectory of the best emerging companies in the country, from the hand of what is now a leading newspaper in economic information. For this reason, it is a very important award for BCN3D, and is that with the last cuetejades of the fifth wave of the Covid and at the gates of a sixth, this award is an ideal opportunity to establish a firm position in the market, with proposals that add value in the post-Covid era through 3D printing.

As before, this year’s event was divided into six categories, corresponding to the most booming and fastest growing sectors in the economy: health and biotechnology, mobility and smart cities, environment and energy, fintech, food and agrotech, and telecommunications, industry 4.0 and emerging technologies. The event was sponsored by CaixaBank, Abertis, Cellnexy Damm.

The process for these awards began in September, when Deusto Emprende, a partner of Expansión, began the selection of seven projects from among the 120 that competed, thus designating the finalists in each category. Subsequently, these start-ups were analyzed by a jury of experts in the world of start-ups and selected to win the first, second or third prize. The members of this jury are: Miguel Vicente, president of Tech Barcelona; Laura Gil, director of digital transformation at Damm; Antonio Durán, global head of innovation at Abertis; Gemma Beltrán, director of DayOne at CaixaBank; Javier Jiménez, general manager of Lanzadera; Garbiñe Henry, director of innovation and entrepreneurship at Deusto Emprende; and Marta Martínez, head of entrepreneurship, transformation and people at the Confederació Empresarial de Bizkaia (Cebek).

BCN3D, in third place in the Industry 4.0 category, was highlighted not only for its innovative component, but also for the strength of its value proposition, the impact of its activity on society, the goals achieved, thescalability of the business model and the quality of the documentation presented. Second prize in this category went to Ziknes, which advocates the democratization of metal 3D printing, while first place went to Kaikoo, an E-sports teaching and training platform.

This category seeks to reward and give a boost to those emerging technology companies with a mission focused on having a positive impact on society. We congratulate BCN3D because this award underlines its principles and celebrates the form they have taken, with firmness and attitude, but also with flexibility, for being able to grow and develop in a context of pandemic as the current one.
